For many Brazilian indigenous tribes, this smudging agent, also known as "sepá", is a central pillar to their ceremonial practices and spiritual cleansing. In situations of illness, interpersonal or community disputes, or an overall negative energy build-up, the first step usually involves burning Breu Branco to purify the atmosphere. The smoke of the Sepá is believed to carry their prayers and intentions.
While this resin is virtually unknown in the U.S., in Brazil it is often used by perfume and fragrance companies and can also be distilled as an essential oil. Also called Brazilian Frankincense, Breu Branco has been used by the peoples of the rainforest for centuries for its healing and protective properties.

Versatile in its uses, it works wonderfully in DIY body scrubs and homemade soaps.

Using a recipient such as a copaleiro or cauldren, place a small piece of Breu Branco or a generous pinch of ground powder upon a burning charcoal to let the smoke burn.
Smudge your entire home, office, car, or sacred space. You can use feathers or a bundle of fresh herbs to disperse the smoke, bringing blessings.
